WE RECOMMEND IN THE DESIGN OF THE INSTALLATION:
1. The installation should include a high quality, low pressure loss shutoff valve upstreamofthemetertopreventwaterdamagetothecustomerpropertywhenservice isrequired,adownstreamshutoffvalveislikewiserecommended. 2. The meter should be installed in a horizontal plane, with the register upright, in a locationaccessibleforreading,serviceandinspection. 3. The installation should be leaktight, with properly sized gaskets. When meter connectionsareorderedfromMasterMeter,gasketsareprovided.Appropriategaskets and couplings also are available from a qualified waterworks distributor. Whenever a meterispulledfromtheline,discardandreplacetheoldgaskets. 4. Although AWWA opposes the grounding of electrical systems to potable water deliverylines,suchpracticesdoexist.Topreventaccidentalharmtoservicepersonnel, makecertainthatanelectricalgroundingstrapisinstalledaroundthemeter. 1.Thoroughlyflushtheservicelineupstreamofthemetertoremovedirtanddebris. 2.Removemeterspudthreadprotectors.Note:Toprotectthemeterspudthreads,sore themeterwiththethreadprotectorsinplace. 3.Setthemeterintheline.Arrowsonthesideofthemeterandabovetheoutletspud indicatethedirectionofflow. 4. Do not overtighten connections; tighten only as required to seal. Do not use pipe sealantorTeflontapeonmeterthreads. 5.Withupstreamshutoffvalveonly:Opentheshutoffvalveslowly,toremoveairfrom meterandserviceline.Openaconsumerfaucetslowlytoallowentrappedairtoescape. ClosethecustomerFaucet. 5.1.Withupstreamanddownstreamshutoffvalvesinstalled:
A.Totesttheinstallationforleaks:Closetheoutlet(downstream)shutoffvalve. Opentheinlet(upstream)shutoffslowlyuntilthemeterisfullofwater. B.Opentheoutlet(downstream)valveslowlyuntilairisoutofthemeterand service line. Open a customer faucet slowly to allow entrapped air to escape. Closethecustomerfaucet. 6.WheninstallingmetersequippedwithDIALOGorElectricalOutputRegisters,refer toinstallationinstructionsordiagramsprovidedbyMasterMeter.
